A Rich Retirement

If it is you who is approaching those golden years we call retirement or one of your mates is in those years, there's no question that making that transition from the working world and decades of responsibility and tough work isn't necessarily straightforward.

The unexpected change of way of life and that sense of "no longer being useful" is one of the hardest aspects of retirement and growing older. When you mix that with reduced activity and the natural decline in physical capability that aging brings, you have got a robust emotional transition to go thru. That is why people who actively recommend the elderly have learned the most positive thing a person can do the fight that depression and sense of "uselessness" that plaques retirees is to make themselves helpful. And there's no better place for them to do that than in community service. There are a selection of great reasons that volunteerism among the aged is a smart idea. And if you're in a position to endorse an old member of the family or friend, it's vital to recollect that doing community service isn't all about being charitable and helping out the down and out. It is just as much about the health and contentment of the retiree as it is for the good of the community and the people in it. By getting out into the community and finding rewarding paths to perform community service, that sense of "being needed" and being part of something is given back to the retiree. Community service and the retirement set are a perfect match for one another.

Folk who are staffing community service projects are always desiring a division of qualified and grown up help, particularly from people who have acceptable time to actually do a good job with a community service project. This is good for retiree who if anything suffers with too much time on their hands. Too frequently, that time can be turned to self-pity or partaking of less than healthful way of life choice. And as a people who are enjoying their rewards from a life of work, this is the very thing to transition to a life of retirement. Community service can also call on the old to take part in some level of exercise. Now your local community service coordinator can ensure that their aged volunteers are given assignments suitable to their physical capabilities.

Community service also provides occasions to socialise with folk of every age and social backgrounds. One of the best risks of a retirement life-style is the solitude and isolation stepping out of the working world causes.

Whether or not the aged person lives in a retirement community, the opportunity to socialize with younger folks and folk of many backgrounds and orientations is enormously healthy for the psychological stability of one in that stage of life.

The advantages to the retiree of becoming concerned in community service are several. But giving that retired person that sense of private price and worth that they have started to expect from every day's work is valuable beyond measurement.

Many community service projects are short term so that the volunteers get that immediate gratification that gives anybody a lift, but even more so a retiree who feels left out and not helpful. Community service might be just the medication to heal those ills.
